Positive Forces In Getting Thin (day 78/365)

10 02 2010

Certain things we do will be a positive force in making our bodies want to get thin says Jon Gabriel in “The Gabriel Method”.

Our bodies need to think “Get thin or get eaten” (like running away from bears, dinosaurs etc) in response to today’s pressures.

One way to trick our bodies into thinking like that is through exercise. Not the sort of exercise that concentrates on burning calories. Rather, the sort of exercise where we can include short bursts of very fast activity (8-12 seconds is all that is needed). It may be short fast bursts on a bicycle while riding, some short sprints if running, short fast swims while doing laps. Whatever exercise we normally do, just add these short, fast bursts. It makes our body think we are fleeing from the predator and decides it needs to be thin to be able to get away in the future.

Adrenaline producing activities and rides can make our bodies think the same thing. We can try bungee jumping, parachuting, riding a roller coaster, ferris wheel etc.

Taking a cold shower can also be beneficial in making our brain think it needs to flee.

We can use everyday/office stress to our advantage also. Next time we get stressed, (where possible) we could use the moment to run up a few flights of stairs or take a brisk walk around the block.

Some very interesting material in this book. It combines valuable visualisation techniques with sensible physiological understanding and positive information about food, forgiveness, and living a full life.

Visualising Your New Body (day76/365)

8 02 2010

Let me summarize a few things from “The Gabriel Method” by Jon Gabriel.

Any lack we experience is a form of starvation. (Lack of money, love, attention, meaning in life, spiritual connection). Our bodies sensing lack can decide they need to be fat to protect us from the lack.

The stress signals that can trick our bodies into activating FAT programs come from negative emotions of fear, sadness, longing, anger, resentment etc. Beliefs generate emotions, so we need to change our thinking.

Visualisation is a good way to achieve this change of thinking. Doing so at a subconscious level makes it work much better, so relaxing before visualising is very beneficial.

Affirming or saying positive words over our life generates good things.
eg. Life if good, I am taken care of, I am safe, I am effortlessly thin.

If we can visualise our new bodies, we also need to picture ourselves in our new body thinking positively, radiating love, forgiving others and ourselves, appreciating others and situations, acknowledging the negative and moving on to conquer.

Living with purpose nourishes our soul. We need to embrace our life’s destiny. Can we see that life purpose as we visualise? I think it’s worth trying don’t you?

Diet-free weight loss (day75/365)

7 02 2010

I’m excited to have started reading “The Gabriel Method” by Jon Gabriel.

The two levels to look at weight loss are these:-

Metabolism – includes calories in, calories out, pills, diets etc. things that force your body to lose weight. (Often not successful. NOT what this author is on about)

Ideal Weight – how fat or thin your body desires to be according to outside factors.

Forcing our bodies is not the same as understanding the things that get our bodies to want to be thin. If we can eliminate the reasons our bodies want to be fat, our bodies will want to be thin. When our bodies understand that being thin is the best way to keep us safe, then they will want to be thin and the weight will fall off.

Gabriel gives an example of his cat. Fat cat – chased by dog – feared for life – thinks thinner and faster is safer. So after this event no matter how much the cat was fed (even extra) it got thinner and thinner to be strong and fast.

In today’s world, whilst we don’t have to face starvation or freezing temperatures without proper housing, our bodies react to other stressors and deals with them in the only way they know how. Fat protects. Fat makes us safer.

Some of the activators are:-

Chronic yo-yo dieting – creates famine for the body

Nutritional starvation – missing nutrients, bad digestion/absorption

Toxins/Radiation/Medication – fat is made to protect organs

Food additives – body doesn’t know how to digest processed, artificial foods

Mental starvation – lack of love, joy, fun, intimacy, spiritual connection

Fear of Scarcity – fear of not having enough money, provision

Emotional Obesity – being overweight makes us feel safer

Dysfunctional beliefs – believe we were born to be fat, deserve to be fat, meant to be fat.

I hope you are looking forward with me to discover how to stop dieting, nourish our bodies, and eliminate the mental and emotional causes of obesity.
